A good God in a bad world

In the midst of uncertainty and overwhelming fear, the reality of God’s sovereignty and goodness can come into question.

Out of the worst situations, how can God truly be in control?

If He is in control, how can His goodness be evident in such suffering?

Here is the truth. God is sovereign. He works all things according to His predetermined will. He never fails to accomplish His will.

Second, God is good. His sovereignty works all things for the good.

God has demonstrated both His goodness and sovereignty in the midst of suffering when He subjected Himself to death on the Cross.

The most humiliating, torturous, and vile capital punishment humans could ever devise; Jesus faced willingly.

To humanity, Christ had failed — God had been defeated. Yet, Jesus said: “No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily”.

Christ endured this sting of death to prove that He was greater than it. For Christ could not resurrect if He did not firstly die. Thus, even in the worst of humanity, we witness the goodness of God. Christ turned His cross into our salvation.

Insomuch as we look to the cross of Calvary, we do not see the evil intentions of the sin of humanity, we see instead God’s grace and love for humanity. Only God could turn an instrument of torture into a symbol of salvation.

Therefore, how much more can God turn any situation we face, any pandemic we declare, into an instrument for His glory? For that which God nails Himself to cannot defile Him, but instead, it is redeemed and used to exalt and glorify Him all the more.
