Your attention is the primary commodity the world is competing for. If you don’t believe me, just check your emails.
In a society easily distracted by the next thing, and heavily motivated by FOMO, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd.
Jesus was right when He said, “They are like sheep without shepherds”. It is precisely this herd-like mentality that companies are vying to take advantage of. The truth, however, is that you have free will to determine what you want out of life.
Not only are you free, but your reality is limited by time and space — you literally cannot be in two places at the same time. You cannot do everything.
This is a sobering thought, but it can be liberating if we understand the blessing behind it. If we are limited to a singular moment, then we recognise that there must be a specific plan and purpose for our lives irrespective of what other people are doing. It is, therefore, our responsibility to seek God for that specific plan, and not focus on His fulfilment of other people’s.
In a platform where people’s lives are utterly transparent, we must take inspiration for God’s providence in their lives, but we must simultaneously take steps to fulfil God’s will for our own.
No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.
Joshua 1:5 NASB.
